What is laser cutting?
Laser cutting is a fast, cost effective technology used extensively at LaserNett to cut into various materials. Lasers are used to melt, burn and/or vaporize material while an assist gas is used to "clear" the cutting area of burnt and molten material.
Laser cutting is a proven technology and has been used industrially since the late 60's. CO2 lasers are suite primarily for cutting, boring and engraving on a multitude of materials. Lasers are able to cut through mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, paper, plastics, wood and fabrics. LaserNett's lasers are used to bore, scribe, cut and engrave.
The laser cutting process is complex but basically involves initially pre-piercing your desired cutting material outside the desired cut. The heat of the laser quickly increases as it is moved into the desired cutting area. An assist gas is then used to remove heated material and a cut is produced. Depending on the type of material cut, varying types of assist gases are used. Oxygen is used with carbon steel, Nitrogen for non-ferrous steels/non-metals and Argon for titanium.
